We continue to fall in love with Sevilla

With the conclusion of the Semana Santa events, it is amazing how fast the parade routes are returning to normal. The chairs and have been collected and the stages dismantled and now sun shades are being put in place in preparation for the summer heat. Sevilla is one of if not the warmest city in Europe.

It is amazing how these shades decrease the temperature at street level.

We continue to walk the city and it continues to offer up beautiful monuments and other sights

And each neighborhood has its unique charm. We have become very fond of Triana and Los Remedios.

Handmade potato chips
A slower pace of life
Gateway to the Feria which is less than two weeks away now.

And we continue to be delighted by seeing some of our previous findings from a different perspective.

We did end up visiting two historic sites this week. First, we had heard of a monastery, turned ceramic factory, now museum. The walk there took us through the 1992 World Expo site.

Soon we were at the “ceramic” museum.

The grounds were impressive

But we soon realized the museum was not what we thought it was

Turns out it is a museum of modern art housed in this historic setting. The museum was more about the setting as it had very few exhibits.

Our second historic venture came about after a shop keeper told us we had to visit the Roman City of Italica only a 20 minute cab ride away. What a find! The city dates back to 200 BC and had the largest coliseum in Spain, second only to Rome in Europe.

Then
Now
The park guides dressed the part.

I must have stumbled upon a group at shift change

It had been a city of importance to the Romans

Then

Now

Remains of the baths
Mosaic floors

And other artifacts

We are down to our last three weeks and only two things planned before we leave, Gibraltar and Féria. But it is the unplanned days that I look forward to the most. I know Sevilla will not disappoint.

I haven’t said it in a while, but that doesn’t make it any less true, I am the luckiest man in the world.

  1. Love all the historical sites! I heard the other day that Spain and Portugal lost power! Hope that didn’t affect you too much.
