Waiting for the train at Odawara Station was an experience. It was amazing how fast the bullet train pass through the station. This video does not capture the sensory overload you have as they rush by. Two hours later we arrived in Kyoto Station and a quick cab ride allowed us to drop our bags … Continue reading Kyoto; Four days on the run

Madrid has proven to be more than a place to adjust to the jet lag before moving on.
Our experience with Madrid two years ago was a let down from the weeks we had spent on the Camino. Having been directed to the Malasaña neighborhood for this visit made all the difference. Our time here has been much more relaxing, allowing us to perfect the Spanish art of Strolling. Museo de Madrid Another … Continue reading Madrid has proven to be more than a place to adjust to the jet lag before moving on.
Settling in
So far so good. Flight from DFW to Madrid was long and uneventful. Navigating the airport in Madrid was so less stressful than in 2021’s Covid restrictions world. Grabbed a cab to our apartment arriving much to early to gain access, so we had coffee and and took in the motion of our new neighbors … Continue reading Settling in
Getting ready for this year’s version of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, but this time it’s for Spain and we are including Autobus.

What well behaved kids. Anyway, we were excited and had planned to leave out early as there was a place that we … Continue reading An emotional time.

When we had returned from dinner in Fonfria, the rain had started to get heavy. It continued late into the night and I was expecting a wet exit the next morning. Fortunately, when I first looked out our window, I could see stars. By the time we left, fog had set in, but no rain. … Continue reading Two great days to Sarria
Meseta: In the thick of it
What we had seen of the Meseta up till now has not been as flat as I expected; not nearly as flat as the Texas panhandle. The slight roll to the farmland is pleasing to the eye. Beautiful morning sky We soon came to a canal that provides a shuttle service, pre-COVID. The locks remind … Continue reading Meseta: In the thick of it
Final tuneup hike
We headed out early this morning to beat the heat to with full packs at 14# and 18#. The Meridian State Park loop trail is approximately three miles of trails and paths that circle the lake. Mostly easy with about 20% falling into the moderate range. Happy Hiker There were a few elevation changes that … Continue reading Final tuneup hike
