DFW to Pamplona

With Kate’s help we arrived at DFW with time to spare in case of any last glitches with immigration, and all went well.

We boarded on time and all started off great until we started to push back.

Calm before the storm

Once we we headed down the runway the three year old sitting behind Becky started to tuneup. Six hours into the flight I look back to see her in a tantrum and kicking the back of Becky’s seat. Needless to say, we did not get the sleep we had planned. By the time we got through customs, health clearance (both of which were a breeze) and made our way by train to the Atocha train station, the travel was starting to wear on us.

From there things ran smooth to Pamplona. Although we wanted to sleep on the train, the countryside views we not to be missed.

I wish we had more of these in Texas

Once in Pamplona we had planned on taking a cab to our hotel. The line of twenty people ahead of us and not a cab in sight was enough for us to re-think the plan. So with the help of Google Maps we logged our first mile and caught a few sights along the way.

Only a quarter mile more to the hotel

After a meal and a few beverages at the hotel we were OUT for the night. Waking up much refreshed we took in one museum and did some more sightseeing

Tomorrow we make our way to the bus station for the trip to St Jean Pied de Port where we will begin the Camino, most likely in the rain. But there is no bad weather, just inappropriate clothing. We can see from our hotel window the mountains that await

  1. Excellent first blog post! Tip for St. Jean…there used to be a spice shop on one of the main drags with the most amazing salts and mixed spices. I suggest getting a very small bag of something interesting for the upcoming boiled eggs in your future. I never saw such an amazing spice shop on the Camino again! Buen Camino! k

  2. Your Camino has begun with the first steps out of the door! Didn’t you just want to stay in Pamplona for a week? It is so great. Oh well you’ll be back there in a few days. (After crossing the Pyrenees, not an easy task.). Good luck my friends.
