What a day.

After an evening Mass and blessing of the pilgrims, we were ready for another great day. All went as planned in the morning. We had the usual breakfast of bread, butter, and jam, met up with some friends, and headed of on the 13 mile trek to Zubiri.

We would soon cross state by lines as Becky set a blistering pace on the relatively flat ground.

We had now changed states.

As we neared the midpoint, we heard Elvis welcoming us to lunch and we met up with many of our original group and had lunch, rested, and tended to our feet.

We headed out refreshed and ready for the Camino ahead, or so we thought. Soon shades of the AT hike were evident. Steep inclines and descents with various degrees of rockiness. Our pace slowed and our spirits fell as we gutted out the last few miles. soon we found an Oasis the wilderness.

A mobile Bar turned out to be a lifesaver

Two hours later we were settled into the Albergue and headed to the bar. Where else in the world can you share a table with people from Holland, Ireland, and Italy and sing Beatle songs. We are realizing part of the magic of the Camino is how the shared hardship of the day brings everyone from everywhere together in the evenings.

We had to leave to have an early dinner and early turn in as we have another 21 kilometers to Pamplona tomorrow. Hard for the old folks to hang.
