Trials and Triumph on the Camino

After a great dinner in Estella and a good nights sleep, we were off before 8:00 to the day’s destination, Los Arcos, a little over 13 miles away.

Dinner in Estella

We soon happened along monastery where a crowd was forming. The mystery was soon revealed to us; FREE WINE! From a tap no less. A miracle?

Wine at 9:00 am will put a little pep in your step

Hoping to find something to eat for breakfast, we had to wait until 11:00 where we found a bar protected by a castle that dated back to the 10th century.

Another day of beautiful countryside.

Hay bails, vineyard, and ancient ruins all in one view

We encountered one traffic jam. But the Shepard and his dogs soon cleared the way.

After a very long hike we arrived in Los Arcos but our journey was far from over.

We marched into town and realized our accommodations was another 1.3 miles from city center. Turns out the hotel we had booked was basically a truck stop on the loop around town. The march to the hotel which took our total for the day to 15 miles, Was a real setback for my spiritual journey. Things were said that should not be repeated. Once we arrived at the La Quinta of Spain, we started working on other arrangements. Soon we were transported to lodging one block from the Old Town square.

Once settled in we enjoyed an evening on the square and were on the move again the next morning, headed to Viana.

Early morning hiking casts a long shadow

This days hike was not as long , but had some challenging paths:

One very pleasant surprise was running into one of our Zubiri singing buddies.

We arrived in Viana at an early hour and Becky was greeted by one of here favorite animals. A sign of good things to come.
