Sometimes you just have to stay positive

Our stay at La Hutte was everything we expected, providing us with many stories to tell at happy hour when we get home. Since most of our roommates had partied late into the night, we were the first out at the late hour of 8:00 am. Becky made the strategic decision to have breakfast before starting the daily hike, as I was ready to get down the road. So with a late start we began what would become another 13 mile day.

There are times your only focus is putting one foot in front of the other. So I knew it was going to be a great day when flowers appeared amongst the rocks.

Three miles in we caught our first glimpse of a sun soaked Burgos

A mile later we stopped for refreshments in a small village and just as we were finishing a few raindrops told us it was time to get started again. So we geared up and started out, taking a few pictures while we could.

Ready for what was to come

As we approached Burgos along the river route, the river was flowing and the streets were being cleaned by the rain we had marched through for the last three hours. Not everyone is blessed with this type of hiking experience. So due to the rain there were not many pictures taken until later in the day.

With a brief lull in the rain, we were able to photograph this scarecrow
We finally cross the river into the city of Burgos

As we entered Burgos the rain let up and we were able to put away the ponchos. As we entered the plaza at the Cathedral, we came across another weary pilgrim.

Becky was in charge of our Burgos accommodations, and they are a step up from La Hutte.

So once we got settled in, did our laundry in the bathtub, we were able to stroll around and take in a few sights before meeting a few friends for dinner and calling it an early night.

The sculpted trees are amazing
While I waited to order my afternoon beer I watched a work of art being produced.

We woke around 8:00 enjoying the fact that we had our first of two zero days to enjoy. After a visit to the tourism office to get the lay of the land, we toured the cathedral. Touted as one of the finest in all of Europe, it lived up to the hype. Sorry, no pictures to share , but it was definitely worth the price of admission (with the pilgrim discount of course).

We then climbed the equivalent of 12 flights of steps to the castle.

On our way back to the hotel we came across two heavenly bodies.

So in keeping with our mission, I have just woken from a nap in which I had my feet elevated to promote heeling. Looking forward to another day of sightseeing and already starting to anticipate the continuation of our journey.
