Rested and restless….the Camino calls

After a great stay in Burgos we were ready to move forward. The rest must have worked as it was the first time in a while that our feet were pain free. One of the first interesting sights we came upon was the old gate to Burgos. If you have seen “The Way” , you will recognize this landmark that is next to the University of Burgos.

A little further down the way it appeared that the vapor trails we’re making the Camino clamshell. As I was snapping the picture s passerby said “it means the end of COVID “. I sure hope he is correct

We made it to Tardajos for a mid morning snack. Walking through the town you could tell there was a pride not on display in some of the other small towns.

We continued on toward the top of the plateau

All up hill, again

For a brief period we were in the flats, reminiscent of the panhandle of Texas.

But after only a short time on the plateau, we started to descend on our destination of Hornillos del Camino.

The next morning the landscape was hidden by a light fog.

This sun trying to burn its way through

Once it had lifted a vast landscape was revealed

After 6 1/2 miles the town on Hontanas appeared. I was thinking it was one of the most striking until I came to the gateway on San Anton a few miles later.

Only two kilometers more and we could finally rest in Castrojeriz

The milestone for the day was passing the 200 mile mark after a total of 20 days. Two days after our rest in Burgos our feet are once again tender and achy. But the Camino calls.

  1. Lovely pictures and interesting commentary. Glad your feet recovered during your stay in Burgos. I loved the gateways to the towns. I had a fun mini-reunion with John and Kathleen on Monday.

    • Glad you were able to connect with John and Kathleen. I will always be grateful for the reunion a few years ago that got us all back in touch.
