After our amusing truck stop experience, the sun was on the rise and the diner lights were coming on.

So after a quick breakfast we started off on the path that followed the highway most of the morning.

After about 7 miles the path finally veered away and we were back in farmland.

We then came into Hospital de Obigo that has a spectacular bridge. Legend has it that a knight trying to capture the attention of the princess defended the bridge in over 150 jousting matches, but finally had to give up. Never did get the girl, but an annual jousting event is held in his honor each year in the adjacent park.

After a short break we headed on to Villares de Obrigo to cap off our 10 mile day. Being a small town with only one Albergue, we were not expecting much. To our delight, it turned out to be a boutique albergue with a wonderful owner/operator, Marta. It could not have been better. And in conjunction with the restaurant around the corner, we and the other two pilgrims staying there were made to feel extremely welcome.

Leaving out the next morning felt like we were finally free of Leon and it’s suburbs and more on a nature hike.

About four miles from Astorga we came upon another marker and a great view of the city that was waiting our arrival.

Astorga is a beautiful city, and we had a great time using the afternoon for dining and sightseeing.

We also scored with the Albergue we reserved. Again a boutique place with a wonderful owner/operator who is preparing a Brazilian inspired dinner for us tonight.
Tomorrow is a longer 12 mile day, which will most likely turn into 14. But that is ok, we will be well nourished and rested.
Spain through the eyes of Lane and Becky is great. I really get a sense of the experience. Thanks.
