P, T and A plus Ferry

It has been a wild few days. The flight was great and on time.

So much so that we arrived at the Termni Train station with enough time to catch an earlier train to Vernazza. Had a great experience when an older lady and her middle age son sat across from us. Becky’s grin and nod approach had her convinced Becky was fluent in Italian. Both her son and I tried to convince her otherwise, but she was having none of that and continued her conversation. Sweet lady.

So instead of 8:30, we arrived at 4:30. Our apartment is 50 yards from the train station and on the Main Street. The town is literally built into the cliffs as you can see from the pic of our bathroom.

We managed to stay awake for dinner, and catch some views.

Our view at dinner

After dinner we were in bed at nine and thanks to the two PM’s, we were able to sleep in spite of the train AND the downstairs bar that was open until 2 AM. I just incorporated all those sounds into some really wild dreams.

The next day we enjoy Vernazza in the morning.

Later that day we took the five minutes train ride to Monterosso to check it out. Much larger town with great beaches and shopping.

To get back we opted for the 10 minute ferry ride

We had an even better dinner that night at the harbor, and of course Becky made a new friend.

It may of had something to do with the two 1/2 bottles of wine, a primary school mistake as we were informed by our waiter.

Neither one of us slept well , still adjusting to the jet lag, but we were up and hiking to Corniglia by 9:30. Flashbacks to the AT and hike in and out of Zubiri came to mind as we climbed from sea level to over 800’ and back down over 2 1/2 miles. Our blistering speed of one mph had us there by noon. The views were worth the effort.

Corniglia in sight.

Corniglia is a very old city with mostly foot path wide streets.

We looked around, had a lemonade and headed to the train: a 400’ descent.

Almost there.

We boarded the train as we wanted to make sure we visited the fourth city, Riomaggiore. Best thing we can say is been there, done that. Within the hour were back on the train to Vernazza. We are back in camino mode. I am drinking a beer and writing the blog, Becky is napping, and later tonight we have a 7:00 reservation at THE restaurant in Vernazza. Tomorrow we work in the fifth city, Manarola, with a 10:30 pesto making class followed by lunch. (This trip seems to be revolving around food). Then Friday we are off to Florence. Until then…
