Wrapping it up in Florence

We seem to be evolving into vacation mode as we are slow to get going in the mornings. By the time we have a coffee in the room and ready to head out it is approaching 10:00. So Sunday we stopped in the market for a late breakfast that proved to be a lifesaver as we would need the energy.

After breakfast we decided to head toward The Ponte Vecchio shopping area we had visited the day before, then leisurely stroll to our meeting point for the Uffizi museum tour. That’s when we made the mistake of choosing not to retrace our exact steps from the day before, but add a little adventure by venturing down unexplored avenues. Thus Death March 2022 had begun!

After only 1 1/2 hours of knowing we would soon come upon a familiar landmark, I decided to consult Google Maps. To my complete surprise I had lead us to areas of Florence I am not sure many locals had not even visited. (One of the drawbacks of having a good sense of direction is not being able to recognize when you really are lost.) With the help of Google, we were able to make it to the shopping are with at least 15 minutes of quality shopping time before we needed to start our leisurely stroll to meet up with the group. Again my homing senses let me down and I led us to the wrong tour company. So again, with a little help from Google, we were able to find the correct meeting point a few blocks away with a few minutes to spare.

Thus our tour of Uffizi museum began. I did not take pictures as we were hanging on every word from our guide Eduardo. We were able to see some of the best paintings from three of the four Ninja Turtles; Michelangelo, Leonardo, Raffaello. (Do you know which one is missing?)

After the Uffizi we went back to our room, changed and started our 20 minute walk to dinner. The restaurant proved to be worthy of our efforts.

After starting with a nice bottle of wine, our three fingers Steak Florentine was served.

After

Definitely one of the best pieces of meat we have ever had!

So after dinner we strolled back to our room, completing a 10+ mile day. We had earned that steak.

The ten miles did give us an opportunity to see the city;

Don’t even think about it!
They even make trash collection interesting

Another late start on Monday morning, with Breakfast at on of the plazas.

Then off to a Da Vinci museum that had life size and scaled models of his inventions that had mostly to do with fortress protection, weapons of war, or machines to make work or human endeavors easier or more automated.

Miscellaneous

Back to our room with a terrace to ready for our last night in Florence. Also a little last minute laundry.

Back to basics

And enough with the Italian food. Tonight we will go to the corner American Diner.
