Burgos did not disappoint and Pamplona exceeded expectations

An early taxi and train had us arriving in Pamplona shortly after 11:00.

Just as we remember it.

At the cab stand in which their were no cabs, a kind lady called and ordered both of us taxis and in 15 minutes we were at our hotel in the heart of the historic district. A room with a view:

Old city hall
Best of all, a street bar right out the door of our hotel.

Once settled in we commenced our new favorite activity of strolling and taking in the sights.

Streets looks a lot different when the bulls are not running.

Bullring. A more thorough visit was yet to come.
This must be the house band as we saw them two years ago.

We took a break from strolling to run with the bulls and help a brother out:

But this stroll was not without purpose. Two years ago we found a fifth generation candy and nut store that makes 85% of their products in house. Our goal was for find it again. We were just about give up when we decided to walk down one more street; and there it was.

And just as before, the owner greeted us and suggested the candied pumpkin seeds as “they are good for men our age”.

With that success under our belt, we napped so we could continue our stroll in the evening in search of a good restaurant. Again we were lucky with food and meeting new friends. A recently retired Spanish teacher from Denver and her still working husband who were soon to start walking the Camino. We had a nice conversation mostly with her as he excused himself to take a work related call. I do not miss those days.

So for today, our second and last day in Pamplona we took a different approach. Becky went to the Spa and I went back to the bullring. No pictures from Becky, but I have plenty to share from my self guided audio tour.

Becky and I again met up to continue sightseeing after we had a generous helping of tapas and pinchos. We walked a very short section of the Camino that led us near the medieval fortress on the edge of town.

With all the walking we felt we had earned a reward.

As I write this blog we are at the laundromat doing a load of clothes. Washing clothes in the sink is ok, but when a dryer is available you go for it. After dinner we will ready for our early morning train to Madrid and connection to Cordoba. There we pick up the car and the REAL adventure begins.
